In the boys division, defending champion Tyler Smith of the Cornwall Curling Club has won the first game of the best of three, beating Brooks Roche of Montague 5-0. Dylan Lowery, Tristan Chatman, and John Ployer, with coaches Coady Dixon and Valerie Collings round out the Roche squad.
Smith finished round robin play with a 4-1 win-loss record. Three rinks were tied for second with 3-2 records, necessitating two tiebreaker rounds. Roche edged Owen Newson of Cornwall 5-4 in an extra end to win the first tiebreaker game, and, aided by a five-ender, beat Cameron Jenkins of Charlottetown by a 5-2 score in the second. Owen Collier of Montague and Devon Schut of Crapaud finished play with 1-4 records.
McLean went undefeated in the girls round-robin, while MacDonald’s record was 3-2. Charlottetown’s Kailey Koughan, Fallon Arsenault of the Silver Fox, and Kayla Schut of Crapaud all had 2 – 3 records, while Rachel O’Connor was 1-4.
Six boys teams and an equal number of girls rinks began play on Friday in this annual event.
