Fullerton rink in consolation round at Ottawa SuperSpiel

Cornwall’s Sarah Fullerton rink completed triple-knockout play at the Ottawa and area 16th annual John Shea Insurance OVCA Junior SuperSpiel with a 1-3 win-loss record, and are playing in the consolation round this morning against the Pierre-Luc Morrissette rink from Quebec. There are separate junior men’s and women’s divisions, except for the consolation round.

The Fullerton foursome, which includes third Michelle McQuaid, second Whitney Young, and lead Sara MacRae, won their opener 7-3 over Andreanne Cantin of Quebec, but then lost their next three games, 7-6 to Clancy Grandy of Guelph Ont., 9-2 to Alanna Routledge of Buckingham Quebec, and 8-6 to Danielle Parsons of NS, who came from behind with a five-pointer in the 7th end.

The semi-finals go at noon Ottawa time, with the finals at 4 pm. Saturday night, Manotick’s Neil Sinclair and the Guelph rink of Clancy Grandy joined Connor Duhaime and former winner Rachel Homan for the championship round.

The traditional Saturday night match-up between the first men’s and women’s qualifiers featured Peterborough’s Duhaime against Ottawa’ s Homan rink in a skins game worth $500. Homan came out on top winning five skins and $310 against three skins and $190 for Duhaime.
