The second of the three section finals will be decided on Sunday at the Pepsi Provincial Junior Curling Championships at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary.
The Sarah Fullerton rink from Cornwall, who won the junior women’s A section, will play the Anita Casey foursome from the Charlottetown Curling Club at 10 am on Sunday, while the men’s A winner, four-time defending champion Brett Gallant, will again face Matthew MacLean from the host club, in the 1 pm Sunday B final.
In the B section playdowns, Gallant took a five-ender in his 10-2 victory over Sam Ramsay’s combined Charlottetown/Silver Fox team, while MacLean doubled Spencer Pitre and his Charlottetown rink by a 4- 2 score. Fullerton also recorded a 10-2 victory, over Tiffany Sweet of O’Leary. while Casey beat A section runner-up Amanda MacLean of the host club by a 6-3 score.
The C finals go Monday at 1 pm. If a team wins A, B, and C sections, they will win the juniors title without the two game championship round. If a team wins two sections, they will play in both championship games, and win the championship if they take either game. Otherwise, the B and C winners will square off, with the winner playing the A section winner in the final game. The championship round, if needed, goes Monday at 6 pm, and Tuesday at 3 pm.
The junior men’s and women’s champs will advance to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Championships, January 16-24 in Sorel-Tracy Quebec.
