VANCOUVER – Nineteen-year-old British skip Eve Muirhead entered the Vancouver Olympics as something of a darkhorse in the curling competition and the three-time junior world champion looked every bit the contender when she won three of her first four games.
But just as the native of Perth, Scotland, appeared poised for a run at the Winter Games playoffs, she was blown out by an underwhelming Japanese rink. A loss to the last-place Americans followed a game later and the British team’s slide entered full swing, culminating in five straight defeats to close out the Olympics and a disappointing 3-6 record.
