O’Rourke and Birt among rinks competing in Lady Monctonian this weekend

(Times & Transcript, Moncton)

The sixth annual Lady Monctonian, presented by Goldline Curling Supplies, is scheduled tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday at Curling Beausejour Inc.

The field features 20 teams split into four divisions battling for a prize purse of $11,000.

Heading the entries is Kathy O’Rourke of P.E.I., the runner-up to Jennifer Jones at the 2010 Canadian Scotties and quarter-finalist at the South Western Ontario Curling spiel last weekend.

A few other high profile teams are Colleen Pinkney of Truro, the 2009 Lady Monctonian Invitational champion and 2010 world senior champion, Andrea Kelly of Fredericton, the 2009 New Brunswick Scotties champ and former world junior champion Suzanne Birt [who won the event in 2008] from PEI.

Birt’s team this season features the return of Robyn MacPhee and that’s definitely an extremely positive move.
