Buy Sobeys Slam tickets before Nov. 1 for chance to win Scotties passes

Team Canada’s Jennifer Jones foursome leads the list of twenty-six world class women’s teams competing November 11-14  in the Sobeys Slam, just 25 minutes from  the PEI ferry in New Glasgow NS.  Jones and her team will compete against such formidable talent as Team Scotland’s Eve Muirhead, the 2010 World Silver Medalists, and the 2010 Scotties runner-up, Kathy O’Rourke of PEI. Also vying to win the $12,000 first prize, and making her return to competitive play, will be two time World Champion, Colleen Jones of Halifax, NS, as well as reigning World Senior Champion Colleen Pinkney of Truro. The Suzanne Birt rink from PEI is also among the entrants in the event, which includes all four Atlantic Provincial Champions, as well as the reigning Saskatchewan and Alberta provincial champs, Amber Holland and Valerie Sweeting.

Other  teams competing include former Sobeys Slam champion Sherry Middaugh from Ontario, former event runner-up Stefanie Lawton from Saskatchewan, USA entries Patti Lank and Erika Brown, and young competitors Rachel Homan of Ontario and Chelsea Carey of Manitoba.

The Sobeys Slam is the only women’s World Curling Tour Grand Slam event in Eastern Canada, and with a total purse of $52,000 is among the richest in the world.

New to the event this year is a men’s division, “Atlantic Challenge 2010”, with 8 teams participating, including two time world Champion and Olympic Gold Medallist Russ Howard, and reigning PEI Men’s and Senior Men’s champ Rod MacDonald and his team, along with PEI’s Peter Gallant rink,  which includes Peter’s son, former World Junior Silver Medallist Brett Gallant, and Brett’s former junior teammate Anson Carmody. Total men’s purse is $10,000.

Competition begins on Thursday, November 11th, continuing through to Championship Sunday, November 14th at the John Brother MacDonald Stadium in New Glasgow.  Some Friday and Saturday games are at the Bluenose Curling Club. Tickets are available at the Stadium or the Bluenose, or by calling 1-877-970-SLAM(7526) or online at sobeysslam.ca/tickets.shtml. A full event pass at $100 plus HST includes:

    Single admission tickets will be available at the door.

    Tickets purchased before November 1st will be entered in a draw to win  tickets to the 2011 Scotties in Charlottetown. (Prize includes 2 weekend passes for the 2011 Scotties Championship weekend and 2 nights accommodations at The Comfort Inn, Charlottetown.)
