Canada’s 1st-ever National Curling Club Ch’ship comes to PEI in November

TORONTO, October 26, 2010 – The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company today announced further details of its second annual The Dominion Curling Club Championship, to be hosted from November 23 to 28 at Prince Edward Island’s Charlottetown and Cornwall Curling Clubs.

Men’s and women’s teams from each of Canada’s provinces and territories will be represented in round robin competition, all vying for the honour of being named 2010 Canadian Curling Club Champions. The teams’ places in the event will already have been hard-won, with each rink having taken home the championship at their provincial or territorial playdowns.

Also on hand for the week-long tournament will be 2010 Olympic Curling Coach for Canada, Jim Waite, and 2006 Paralympic Gold Medalist curler, Sonja Gaudet.

Last year’s inaugural The Dominion Curling Club Championship made history as Canada’s first-ever national championship for club curlers, welcoming curling greats Glenn Howard, Mike Harris, and Sherry Middaugh, and awarding national titles to teams from Ontario’s Chatham Granite Club and High Park Curling Club.

“We’re thrilled to be back for our second annual The Dominion Curling Club Championship,” says George Cooke, President and CEO of The Dominion. “The Dominion has been a longtime supporter of amateur sport in communities across Canada, and once again this November, we’ll get to see our country’s finest club curlers compete on the national stage.”

All profits from The Dominion Curling Club Championship will be re-directed to the Canadian Paraplegic Association and developmental curling initiatives in communities across the country.
