Suzanne Birt’s rink will represent Prince Edward Island at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Feb. 19-27.

Birt of the Charlottetown Curling Club scored three in the 10th end to break open a close game, defeating clubmate Kathy’O’Rourke 7-3.

After opening the game with a blank, the teams virtually traded single points until the final end.

Birt put her rink in a position to win the provincial title today after scoring a dramatic 8-7 come-from-behind win Sunday night at the Cornwall Curling Club. O’Rourke led that game 7-4 after eight ends.

So, Birt and her rink — third Shelly Bradley, second Robyn MacPhee and lead Leslie MacDougall — will be carrying the P.E.I. flag when the national women’s curling championship comes to the Charlottetown Civic Centre in two weeks.
