(PEI Gov’t) Islanders are invited to come and celebrate Team PEI athletes tonight, as they prepare to compete at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
“The Team PEI Rally is a wonderful opportunity for Islanders to celebrate the members of Team PEI and wish them all the best as they prepare for the 2011 Canada Winter Games,” said Premier Ghiz. “I encourage families, friends and fans to attend the Rally and show their support for Team PEI.”
Team PEI is comprised of over 215 athletes, artists, coaches and mission staff who will take part in the 2011 Canada Winter Games February 11-27, 2011 in Halifax. Curling’s representatives are the Tyler Smith and Amanda MacLean teams.
“Tonight’s rally serves as a wonderful send-off for our Island Team,” said Minister Bertram. “It’s a night to celebrate our Team’s commitment and achievements, and to support all of them as they enter national level competitions.”
Sponsored by ADL and the Delta, the event at the Delta Hotel begins at 7 p.m. Premier Ghiz, Minister of Health and Wellness Carolyn Bertram, Chef de Mission Joanne Wallace, Team PEI mission staff, athletes, family members, coaches, managers and sponsors will be in attendance.
“All members of Team PEI have worked hard to get to this point,” said Joanne Wallace, chef de mission for Team PEI. “The athletes rally serves as a great way to celebrate all the work that has gone into creating this team and it is an important part of our preparation for the Games as it builds team spirit and unity.”
