PEI Sports Hall of Fame extends deadline

PEI Sports Hall of Fame

The PEI Sports Hall of Fame has announced that the nomination deadline for submitting names for induction in 2011 has been extended to Friday, Feb. 25.

“We wanted to ensure that we had a good number of quality submissions this year,” said communications spokesperson Nick Murray, “and extending the deadline an extra few weeks should give us a good slate of potential inductees for the Hall of Fame board of directors to consider.”

Traditionally, the Hall of Fame inducts four new members every year. Athletes, builders and teams are considered, with the criteria stating that an athlete must be retired for at least five years, or be acknowledged as being five years past their peak performance.

Builders must have given outstanding service to Island sport for a minimum of 10 years.

Membership is open to those born in Prince Edward Island or were  residents for a considerable part of their sporting career.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremonies traditionally take place in late summer or early fall.

Nomination forms, or questions concerning induction, should be addressed to Murray at 368-4547 or publicrelations@sportpei.pe.ca.
