Likely to play MacKenzie for Tankard B Final

Charlottetown’s Eddie MacKenzie rink, who won the A final on Saturday at the Labatt Tankard Provincial Men’s Curling Championship at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, will also play for the B title, against clubmate John Likely.

On Saturday evening, MacKenzie, and his rink of Mike Gaudet, Mike Dillon and Alex MacFadyen, with coach Blair Weeks, beat the defending champion Rod MacDonald rink 7-3 to advance to the B final, scoring a deuce in end two, stealing another two in three, and singles in ends four through six for the win.

Likely, and Charlottetown clubmate Peter Gallant were tied at four after eight ends of play, but Likely pulled ahead with a triple in nine. Gallant narrowed the gap with a deuce in end ten, but the final score was Likely 7 and Gallant 6. Other members of the Likely foursome are Kyle Stevenson, Mark Butler, and Doug MacGregor.

The B final is scheduled for 2 pm on Sunday, with the C final in this triple knockout event going Monday at 7 pm. The two game playoff round between the A, B, and C winners goes Tuesday at 2 and 7 pm.

Sunday draws are scheduled for 10 am, and 2 and 7 pm. The morning draw, originally scheduled for 9, was delayed an hour, due to the anticipated weather conditions. Any further changes to the schedule will be announced on local radio stations, and posted on PEICurling.com.

Fifteen teams are taking part in this year’s Labatt Tankard, with the winning rink advancing to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 5-13 in London Ontario.
