SUMMERSIDE – The Eddie MacKenzie rink can win the 2011 Labatt Tankard provincial men’s curling championship here at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club tonight.

MacKenzie defeated Peter Gallant 9-7 in a C section semifinal game Monday afternoon to improve to 7-0 (won-lost) in the triple-knockout format. After winning the A and B sections over the weekend, MacKenzie will be declared P.E.I.’s representative at the Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ont., from March 5 to 13 if he sweeps all three sections.

He will be opposed in tonight’s 7 p.m. draw by John Likely, who eliminated defending champion Rod MacDonald with a 10-9 extra-end decision in the other afternoon semifinal. All four rinks curl out of the Charlottetown Curling Club.

A Likely win tonight will force a championship round against MacKenzie on Tuesday. MacKenzie would need to win just one of the two potential games, while Likely would need to win the 2 p.m. draw to force a sudden-death game at 7 p.m.
