Team PEI’s Amanda MacLean rink wrapped up round robin play today at the Canada Games in Halifax with a pair of wins, following this morning’s 8-6 extra-end win over Quebec with a 7-5 victory this evening over Newfoundland and Labrador’s Carolyn Suley rink. In this evening’s game, PEI had hammer in the first end and capitalized with a deuce, and then stole a single in the second to lead 3-0. Suley recovered quickly, though, with a single and a deuce to tie the game after four ends. The teams traded deuces in the next two ends, with PEI pulling ahead with a pair of singles in ends seven and eight.
PEI ends round robin play with a 2-3 win-loss record, ahead of the two teams it beat today, who finished at 1-4. Alberta and Ontario lead their pool, with 4-1 records, followed by the Yukon at 3-2. Ontario will be awarded first place in the pool, having beaten Alberta in their round robin encounter.
Nova Scotia grabbed first place in the other pool, with a win over BC today. Both teams finished round robin play at 4-1. Manitoba, New Brunswick, and the Northwest Territories are all 2-3, followed by Saskatchewan at 1-4.
PEI nows plays in a crossover game against the Territories on Thursday evening at 7:30, to determine final placement, but won’t be in the medal round.
The semi-finals go Friday at 10 am at the Mayflower Curling Club, with Alberta playing Nova Scotia, and BC taking on Ontario.
The Bronze Medal game goes Friday afternoon at 2:30, with the Gold Medal round Friday at 7:30 pm.
