Jennifer Jones had to work for her win Saturday night at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Civic Centre.
The three-time defending Canadian women’s curling champion and her foursome from the St. Vital Curling Club in Winnipeg were tested in a 7-6 victory over Quebec’s Marie-France Larouche, who fought back from a 5-2 deficit after six ends.
Jones had to find a piece of the button with her last rock in 10 to pull out the victory.
Another former Scotties winner, B.C.’s Kelly Scott, debuted with a victory, 7-2 over Stacie Devereaux of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Manitoba’s Cathy Overton-Clapham bounced back from a loss in the afternoon session to defeat Kerry Galusha of the Yukon-Northwest Territories 7-4. Heather Smith-Dacey’s Nova Scotia quartet did likewise, edging Andrea Kelly of New Brunswick 8-7.
