(by Jason Simmonds)
CHARLOTTETOWN – Saskatchewan, skipped by Amber Holland, scored five in the eighth end to break open a close game en route to a 10-6 victory over P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt rink at the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts here at the Civic Centre on Sunday night.

Holland’s big end gave her rink from the Kronau Curling Club a 10-4 lead. Birt counted a deuce in the ninth end before shaking hands.

The loss dropped P.E.I.’s record to 1-2 (won-lost). P.E.I. doubled Quebec’s Marie-France Larouche 10-5 in Sunday afternoon’s draw. Holland, meanwhile, sits atop the standings with a perfect 3-0 mark.

P.E.I. plays twice Monday, facing Ontario’s Rachel Homan at 9:30 a.m., and Team Canada’s Jennifer Jones at 7:30 p.m.
