Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club benefits from energy retrofit

(PEI Gov’t) An energy retrofit project carried out at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside will reduce costs and promote greater efficiency, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair.

“We are pleased to partner with community organizations to reduce their carbon footprint through savings in heating and electrical costs,” said Mr. LeClair. “I would like to commend the members of the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club for working with the Office of Energy Efficiency to conduct an audit and carry out this retrofit project.”The project involves the replacement of doors and windows and an upgrade to the electrical system. The total cost of the project is $129,750. The Island Community Fund is contributing $90,532 and the Office of Energy Efficiency provided $6,780. The curling and yacht club has invested $31,438 in the project.“The Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club supports social activity and a healthy lifestyle for the residents of Summerside and surrounding areas,” said Minister Janice Sherry. “From curling to boating, plus social events and local employment, it is truly an active, One Island Community organization.”The Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club has 300 curling members and an active marina. The facility houses a restaurant and lounge which also caters to events such as weddings, banquets and receptions.Mr. LeClair said the retrofit project is an excellent example of community organizations that are becoming more energy efficient.The Island Community Fund is a six-year, $27.5 million program to address infrastructure needs in Prince Edward Island communities.
