Former Canadian Junior champion Brett Gallant and his rink stole a single in the final end to edge the defending Canadian Mixed champion Robert Campbell foursome 5-4 on Saturday afternoon to capture the M&M Meat Shops Provincial Mixed Curling Championship,  played at the Charlottetown Curling Club, the host club for both teams. Gallant, with teammates Erin Carmody, Anson Carmody, and Michelle Mackie went undefeated in the double knockout event, winning both A and B section finals over Campbell.

In Friday’s A final, Campbell was ahead 4-3 going into the fifth end, when Gallant scored four points to grab the lead, scoring three points to Campbell’s four in the second half to hang on for a 10-8 win.

In the B final, ends 1,  3, and 7 were blanked, with the teams trading singles in the other ends through end six, and deuces in eight and nine,  before Gallant took the win with the 10th end steal.

Other members of the runner-up Campbell team are Rebecca Jean MacDonald, Robbie Doherty, and Jackie Reid. The other two teams in the event were the John Likely rink from Charlottetown, and Montague’s Tammy Dewar foursome.

The winning Brett Gallant team will now advance to the 2012 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, November 12-19, 2011 at the Sudbury Curling Club in Sudbury, Ontario.
