Moyaert (2-1) tied for second at Canadian Seniors. Hope 0-3.

PEI’s June Moyaert rink are in a six-way tie for second place, with a 2-1 win-loss record following opening weekend play at the World Financial Group Canadian Seniors in Digby NS. Alberta leads at 3-0.  The PEI women lost their opener 8-4 to two-time world women’s champ Colleen Jones, but beat Saskatchewan 8-7 in an extra end in their second game, and Newfoundland and Labrador 9-8, also in an extra end, in their third match.

PEI’s Bill Hope foursome have not been as fortunate, losing their opener to Nova Scotia’s Scott Saunders by a 6-3 score, and dropping a 9-7 decision to Saskatchewan’s Brad Heidt, who was trailing 7-6 after Hope picked up four points in the eighth end, but took a tying deuce in the ninth, and stole the winning point in the 10th end. It was the same story in their game against Newfoundland and Labrador’s Jeff Thomas squad. PEI was ahead 5-3 after eight, but Thomas took a pair in nine and stole a single in 10 for the 6-5 win.

PEI men and women play Manitoba in the morning draw, and Ontario in the evening round on Monday.
