PEI’s Matthew MacLean rink, and the Halifax team skipped by PEI native Anita Casey, won this afternoon’s 20 and Under division finals at the Codiac Maritime Junior Spiel, which was played at both the Beaver and Beausejour “Curl Moncton” locations. The MacLean rink beat Fredericton’s Spencer Watts team 5-2 in the final, while Casey beat Fredericton’s Jennifer Armstrong 7-2. PEI’s Sam Ramsay rink lost 7-0 to the Watts team in the semi-final round, while the rink skipped by MacLean’s sister, Amanda, won the 20 and Under women’s consolation final, by a 7-2 score over Krista Nix of New Glasgow. The boy’s 15 and Under division was won by Matthew Manuel of Halifax, while Mary Fay of Chester NS won the girl’s 15 and Under event.

Other members of the Matthew MacLean rink, who curl out of O’Leary’s Maple Leaf Curling Club, are Marshall Smallman, Kevin Gallant, and Alan MacLean, with coach Glen MacLean. Anita Casey was curling with Sarah Spafford, Courtney Huestis, and Julia Williams, with coach Karen Ouellette, out of the Mayflower Curling Club. Rounding out the Amanda MacLean foursome, from O’Leary and Cornwall, are Kassinda Bulger, Emily Gray, and Aleya Quilty, with Glen MacLean also coaching their rink. The Sam Ramsay foursome curl out of the Charlottetown Curling Club, and include Matthew Nabuurs, Connor MacPhee, and Shawn Pitre, with coach Robbie Roberts.
The other Island rinks competing in the event were skipped by Katie Fullerton, Rachel O’Connor, and Jeffrey Taylor, all from the Cornwall Curling Club, and Alex Matters from Charlottetown.
