Calgary’s Crystal Webster rink, with PEI natives Erin Carmody and Geri-Lynn Ramsay on the team, went undefeated until the final game at the Meyers Norris Penny Charity Classic, which wrapped up today in Medicine Hat Alberta, with 32 teams taking part. The Webster rink lost the final to the other undefeated rink, skipped by Scotland’s Eve Muirhead, by a 6-3 score. The Alberta team were trailing 3-2 after five ends, when Muirhead scored a triple in the sixth. Webster recorded a single in the seventh end, but the Perth Scotland skip ran her out of rocks in the final frame.
Muirhead beat Nadine Chyz of Calgary 8-6, while Webster downed China’s Bingyu Yang 7-1 in the semi-finals. The winning Muirhead team went home with $8000, with $5000 going to the runner-up Webster foursome.
In the quarter-finals, Webster beat Jill Thurston of Winnipeg 6-4, Muirhead edged Liudmilla Privivkova of Moscow 4-3, Wang defeated Lisa Johnson of Edmonton 7-4, and Chyz blanked Satsuki Fujisawa of Nagano Japan by an 8-0 score.
