(CCA) Moncton’s Sylvie Robichaud, who survived a tough Monday schedule splitting games with Manitoba and PEI at the 49th Canadian Mixed curling championship in Sudbury, is alone in first place.
Her afternoon win over Brett Gallant of Charlottetown propelled her to a 6-1 record at the halfway point of the round robin.

Right behind the Moncton skip are Alberta’s Kurt Balderston and Saskatchewan’s Jason Ackerman both at 5-1 and both having evening byes.
Trois-Rivieres skip Martin Ferland has his Quebec foursome in the hunt at 5-2 following an 11-4 drubbing of Nova Scotia’s Chris Sutherland (1-5).
Manitoba’s Sean Grassie missed a chance to move into a tie with New Brunswick when he suffered a 7-6 extra end loss to surging BC skipped by Doug Marshall. The Chilliwack foursome lost their first two games of the competition roaring back with four straight wins. Grassie’s record is now 5-2 and Marshall is at 4-2.
Ontario’s Rideau CC (Ottawa) Mark Homan earned a much needed 8-4 win over the Newfoundland & Labrador’s Gary Alcock (0-6). Homan’s record stands at 4-3 along with PEI’s Gallant and Northern Ontario’s Mike Assad. The Thunder Bay skip edged a stubborn Scott Hamilton of the Yukon 10-8 in an extra end. The Whitehorse team is at 0-6.
In another territorial battle, and the first time the NWT and Nunavut have faced each other in a CCA competition, Steve Moss’ Yellowknife squad dumped Nunavut’s Ed Sattelberger 10-4. Moss now has two wins and is at 2-4 while the Iqaluit team is still winless at 0-6.
Besides Alberta and Saskatchewan, the evening byes were enjoyed by NB and PEI.
