Shaw advances to Hub City men’s semis, Birt (5-0) advances to women’s final

Only one PEI men’s team and one Island women’s rink have advanced after this morning’s action at the Molson Canadian Hub City Shootout cashspiel in Moncton. Brett Gallant, who qualified Friday in the A section of the triple-knockout men’s event, lost 7-4 to New Brunswick’s Marc Lecocq, while Rod MacDonald lost 6-4 to John Luckhurst of NS in the men’s quarter-finals this morning. PEI’s Robert Shaw rink won their game 5-3 over Vaughan and advanced to the noon semis, against Lecocq. Luckhurst plays Jeremy Mallais of Moncton in the other semi. The final is at 3:30.

In the women’s section, Suzanne Birt remains undefeated, with a 5-0 win-loss record, after doubling second place Andrea Kelly of NB 4-2 this morning. Sandy Comeau downed another NB rink, skipped by Sylvie Robichaud, by a 6-2 score to move into second place, and face Birt in the noon final.
