MacLean had a 4-2 lead going into the eighth end of today’s women’s final, but Fullerton came on strong in the final ends, with a deuce in the eighth, a stolen single in nine, and some well-placed guards in the final end which gave her another deuce for the 7-4 win. Deuces in ends three and five gave Matters the edge in a low-scoring game, with a two point lead after eight ends. Ramsay blanked the 9th to have last rock advantage coming home, but Matters, and his fourth-rock thrower Chris Gallant kept the house clean, and Matters didn’t have enough rocks in play to pull off a tie.
The winners of the “fairplay” sportsmanship award, voted on by the players, were Cody Dixon, who skipped the lone Montague team in the event, and Jenny McLean, lead on the Veronica Smith rink from Cornwall. The Asham coaching awards, voted on by all the coaches went to Glen MacLean and Angela Hodgson.
