Kevin Koe bringing experienced foursome to Summerside for Players’ Championship (Journal)

CALGARY – Kevin Koe is well aware of the level of competition that awaits in the Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship in Summerside.

“It’s so tough,” said Koe in a recent phone interview. “There is no weak link with it only being eight teams.

“The format in the past was 16 teams, and you might get a bit of an easier game here and there. It’s a real tough format. You have to be playing really well to have a chance.”

The event also features the top eight women’s teams, which begin round-robin play on Tuesday, April 17. Men’s action gets underway on April 18.

“I’m excited,” said Koe, 37. “It’s my first time curling there (P.E.I.). Having been to P.E.I. as a little kid, it will be exciting to go back.”

Koe is looking to put an exclamation mark on his season in Summerside. But he knows it won’t be easy.

“I don’t think there are any secrets for an event like this,” said Koe. “You have to be playing great, and if you are a little off, you are going to get hammered”.
