WINNIPEG – Cathy Overton-Clapham is not only skipping her own rink, but she is mentoring three other young curlers in the process.
And enjoying every minute of it.

The Cathy Overton-Clapham-skipped rink will be one of eight women’s entries in the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship in Summerside. “We have a very young team, excluding myself,” quipped Overton-Clapham, 42. “The girls are anywhere from 21 to 24. Breanne (Meakin) throws lead, and she was actually with our team last year at the Scotties in Charlottetown.
“Ashley Howard, who plays second, has moved from New Brunswick to Winnipeg to curl with us. Jen (Jenna) Loder, who is playing third, is 24 and she is from Winnipeg.
“Her (Loder) and Breanne curled together in junior, and won a Canadian championship and a silver medal at the world juniors.”
Overton-Clapham’s rink is one of the eight women’s entries in the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship in Summerside from April 17 to 22.
“It’s really exciting to come back to P.E.I., and I’ve never been to Summerside,” said Overton-Clapham, who curled in the 1999 and 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Charlottetown.
