SUMMERSIDE – Two familiar faces sit atop the men’s standings of the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling Sun Life Financial Players’ Championship.

Edmonton’s Kevin Martin and Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont., are both 2-0 (won-lost).

Martin opened with a 6-4 win over Edmonton’s Kevin Koe, and defeated Toronto’s John Epping 5-2 in the evening draw.

“You won’t win all your games here, you are going to lose one or two,” said Martin. “But 5-2 will get you in the playoffs, so that’s where the mind has to be.

Howard, meanwhile, was feeling far from 100 per cent as he battles the flu and a cold.

“We were a little fortunate,” said Howard after outlasting Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen 8-5 in the evening draw. “The bottom line is we’re 2-0, right where we want to be.”

Howard made an outstanding shot that drew a loud applause to count four in the last end of a 10-7 win over Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., in the afternoon draw.
