Martin makes big shot to beat Gushue in quarter-finals at Prairie Classic (Portage Online)

(Written by Travis Roberts)

The quarter-finals are complete and just 4 teams are left standing in the 2012 Canad Inn’s Prairie Classic.  Kevin Martin had a phenomenal shot in the 8th end to take 4 points and move passed Brad Gushue with a 8-5 win.

Glenn Howard won over John Epping 8-7.  It was quite the back-and-forth match-up, but it seems that certain picked shots were the changing point of the game.  As Howard was down by 1 with the hammer in the 8th he drew in taking 2 points.

Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen is out as he fell 5-4 to Calgary’s Kevin Koe.  Koe, who was down by 1 heading into the 8th end, took 2 points to hold off the extra end and win by 1 in the 8th.

Jeff Stoughton hammered William Lyburn 9-1.  Lyburn conceded after the 4th end when Stoughton took an amazing 5 points.

In the semi-finals Kevin Martin will meet-up with Ontario’s Glenn Howard, and Calgary’s Kevin Koe will face Winnipeg’s Jeff Stoughton.  All the action begins at 2 pm this afternoon, with the final 2 teams to play at 6 pm [8 Atlantic] tonight.
