Canada’s Best Valu Inn Curling Classic cashspiel continues today, and wraps up on Sunday at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. The first of four qualifiers for the men’s semi-finals will be determined in this morning’s 10 o’clock draw. Two-time world champion and Olympic gold medallist Russ Howard has been subbing for Terry Odishaw as skip of Moncton’s Team Odishaw, and the team will play the Jason Vaughan rink from Saint John in the men’s “A” qualifier. The Vaughan foursome beat Charlottetown’s Eddie MacKenzie rink yesterday to advance to the qualifier, while Team Odishaw beat Mark Kehoe of Nova Scotia, and then edged PEI’s Rod MacDonald team 5-4 to advance. The B and C side qualifiers for the semis will be determined in the 4 and 7 pm draws.
On the women’s side, Charlottetown’s Kim Dolan rink is unbeaten in the A pool of the round robin, with a 3-0 record. Katly O’Rourke of Charlottetown and Sarah Rhyno of Nova Scotia are next at 1-1. The B pool is led by PEI’s Suzanne Birt and New Brunswick’s Sylvie Robichaud, both at 2-0.
Draws today go at 10 am (4 men’s and 1 women’s game – O’Rourke vs Rhyno), 1 pm (women), 4 pm (men), and 7 pm (4 women’s games plus final men’s qualifier).
The semi-finals go Sunday morning at 10, with the finals at 1 pm.
