Plans proceeding well for Canadian Senior Curling Ch’ships March 2013 at Fox (Journal)

SUMMERSIDE – In just a few months, 24 of Canada’s best senior curlers will compete for the Canadian championships and the right to represent the country at the world championships.

The Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside will become the first club in Canada to host the Canadian senior curling championships for a third time. The previous events were held in 2006 and 2009.

Russ Howard of Moncton skipped the New Brunswick men’s rink in the 2009 Canadian senior curling championships at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside.

If the 2013 championships are anything like the previous two in Summerside, spectators will be treated to 10 ends of great curling by some of the best in the world. It will not be known until the middle of February who is coming, but we assure they will be the best senior curlers that their provinces and territories have to offer.

One difference from previous championships is that six teams – three men and three women – will arrive on March 13 to qualify for the 12th spot in the championship. Practice for all teams will be held March 15, with round-robin play starting on Saturday, March 16.

Tickets will be on sale soon, with an “All Draw” pass, including the playoffs, selling for $75. Single draw and weekend passes will also be available.
