Kathy O’Rourke rink runners-up at Hub City Cashspiel

 

PEI’s Kathy O’Rourke rink fell victim to a five-ender from New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford team this afternoon, losing 7-1 in the women’s final of the 6th annual Molson Canadian Hub City Shootout cashspiel at Moncton’s Beaver and Beausejour clubs.

Crawford had a narrow 2-1 lead going into the 5th end, where she scored the five-ender to bring the game to a speedy conclusion.

The winning Crawford team includes Rebecca Atkinson, Danielle Parsons, and Jodie DeSolla. Other members of the runner-up O’Rourke team are Meaghan Hughes, who throws 4th stones, along with Jackie Reid, Tricia Affleck, and alternate Stefanie Clark.

O’Rourke and Crawford both finished round robin play with 4-1 win-loss records to advance to the final. PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink finished at 2-3, while the Tammy Dewar foursome from Montague went 0-5.

In the men’s semi-finals this afternoon, James Grattan beat Nova Scotia’s Team Revolve, skipped by Jamie Murphy, 5-2, and Paul Dobson edged defending champion Marc Lecocq 7-6 in a battle of New Brunswick rinks. The final goes at 3:30 pm.

None of the six Island mens rinks, skipped by Robert Shaw, Rod MacDonald, Jamie Newson, Eddie MacKenzie, Mike Gaudet, and Blair Weeks, made it to today’s playoff round.

In PEI men’s play yesterday,  Shaw lost 9-6 to Zach Eldridge of NB in the B pool, and then lost his C flight game 8-2 to Andrew Symonds of NL. Rod MacDonald lost 7-6 to Pierre Fraser of NB, and 8-2 to NB’s Jason Vaughan, and Jamie Newson lost 6-5 to Nova Scotia’s Brent MacDougall, and 6-4 to Eldridge.

Eddie MacKenzie also lost 6-5 to  MacDougall,  Mike Gaudet lost 5-3 to Martin Ferland of Quebec, and Blair Weeks lost 6-4 to  Terry Odishaw of NB.

Six PEI men’s rinks and three Island women’s teams began play Thursday in the event.
