Martin, Howard, Koe among big names in $100,000 Grand Slam

The best men’s curlers in the world take over the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre beginning Wednesday.

The National, the third of four majors on the Grand Slam of Curling series, brings together the top rinks in Canada, featuring world and Olympic champions, along with some international content.

Eighteen teams will play down to the eight-team playoffs beginning Saturday. The final is Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The bonspiel carries a total purse of $100,000. It will be broadcast by Rogers Sportsnet.

Reigning Olympic and former world champion Kevin Martin of Alberta, reigning world champion Glenn Howard of Ontario, past world champions Kevin Koe of Alberta and Jeff Stoughton of Manitoba and 2006 Olympic winner Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and Labrador headline the draw.
