Credit Unions of PEI provincial Senior Curling Ch’ships start Thurs. at the Silver Fox, host of this year’s nationals

Credit Unions

The Credit Unions of PEI Provincial Senior Curling Championships, for curlers age 50 and over, are set for the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside, which is also the site for this year’s nationals. At the request of the teams, and to take advantage of the Islander Day provincial holiday, the provincial draws will take place a day later than originally scheduled, starting on Thursday February 14 at 9:30 am, and concluding with the men’s and women’s finals at 2 pm on Monday February 18.

The eight women’s rinks signed up, including the defending champion Shirley Berry foursome, with members from both the Cornwall Curling Club and the host club, will play a triple knockout format, qualifying four teams for the Page championship round, Sunday at 2 pm, where the first two qualifiers will square off  in the Page A-B game, with the winner advancing directly to the Monday final, and the loser playing the winner of the Page B-C game between the other two qualifiers, in the 6:30 Sunday semi-final. The winner of the semi will advance to the final.

The six-team men’s division will play a round robin format, with the top team after the round robin and any tiebreakers advancing directly to the 2 pm Monday final, and the second and third place teams competing in the 6:30 pm Sunday semi-final, with that winner also going to the final.

The winning men’s and women’s teams will be back at the Fox for the Canadian Seniors Curling Championships, from March 16-24. Alberta’s Cathy King and Rob Armitage rinks are last year’s champs.
