Brad Gushue and Geoff Walker, from the island of Newfoundland, and their teammates, Prince Edward Island natives Brett Gallant and Adam Casey, have advanced to this afternoon’s quarter-finals at The Players Championship, being played at the former Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. They doubled the Koe rink 6-3 in a tiebreaker this morning, scoring a triple in the seventh end. to advance to the 4 pm Atlantic quarter-final round, where they’ll be playing Glenn Howard and his Coldwater Ont. rink, who beat the Gushue squad in an extra end earlier in the event.
The quarters are being telecast on CBC TV. The semis, on Sportsnet, follow at 8:30, with the championship game on CBC Sunday at 2.
