Local curlers are holding their breath in hopes that Halifax will be the home of the 2015 world men’s curling championships
The international event is coming to Canada, but the host city has not yet been chosen.
A local bid committee is asking the city and the province to share the $300,000 bidding fees. City council will vote on the request this week.
There’s a lot of interest from western Canada, but Matthew Harris, the interim chair of the local bid committee, is optimistic about Halifax’s chances.
“We do know that the [Canadian Curling Association] would like to come to Halifax with this event, so if we can get the government financing in place I think we stand a very good chance of being awarded the championship,” he said.
