SUMMERSIDE – Six new members were added to the P.E.I. Curling Hall of Fame and Museum on Monday night.
The ceremony, which was held at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, honoured Jennie Boomhower, Beverly J. Millar and Marilyn Sutherland as well as Ann Currie, Arnold (Lock) Llewellyn and Daniel Lindsay O’Rourke.
“Recognizing the accomplishments of curlers and builders, who have dedicated much time and energy to support curling, is important not only to them and their families and friends, but also as a component of our curling history,” noted P.E.I. Curling Hall of Fame and Museum founder Jerry Muzika.
The P.E.I. Curling Hall of Fame and Museum welcomed six new members on Monday. From left: Morgan Currie, on behalf of his late mother, member Ann Currie; Cathy Clarey, on behalf of her late father, member Danny O’Rourke; member Jennie Boomhower; Derek Llewellyn and his mother, Teresa, on behalf of the late member Arnold (Lock) Llewellyn; members Beverly Millar and Marilyn Sutherland.
Canadian Curling Association governor Ron Hutton attended the ceremony, as he has done most years, and expressed what the inductees’ efforts mean to the sport.
“The builders, I thank you for working countless hours for the good of the game,” he said. “To the curlers, congratulations on being recognized for your achievements at the local and national level.”
The inductees’ paths to the P.E.I. Curling Hall of Fame and Museum were individual and as varied as their personalities.
