There’s only one team with PEI connections still playing at the Road to the Roar Olympic Pre-Trials in Kitchener. Calgary’s Cheryl Bernard, whose father and cousins live on PEI, was eliminated in this morning’s draw, after she missed a difficult last shot, in her game against Edmonton’s Val Sweeting, with a 9-7 final score.  The first women’s Trial spot will go to the winner of a game at 8 tonight between Kelly Scott and Renee Sonnenburg, while the loser of that game will play Sweeting at 3 pm Sunday for the other Trial spot.

The Brad Gushue game was all but over after five ends, when they led 9-1 over Blake Higgs of Glencoe Ont., but the event rules dictated that more ends were needed, so it ended with an 11-4 score after 8 ends.Team Gushue includes PEI natives Brett Gallant and Adam Casey, and face Greg Balsdon and his Toronto team, in another sudden-death game, at 3 pm Atlantic. The winners of that game, and the other men’s game at the same time, between Rob  Fowler and Steve Laycock, go on to a game at 10 am Sunday, with the winner of that game advancing to the second of two qualifiers for the Trials, at 8 pm Sunday. The first qualifier, between John Morris and Brad Jacobs, goes at 3 pm Sunday, with the winner going to the Trials, and the loser advancing to the second qualifier.

The Crystal Webster and Laura Crocker teams, which include PEI natives Geri-Lynn Ramsay and Erin Carmody, respectively, were eliminated on Friday.
