Brad Gushue’s hopes of a second trip to the Olympics were dashed this evening, as he lost to defending Canadian Men’s champion and World Silver Medallist Brad Jacobs in the final game of the Road to the Roar Olympic Pre-Trials in Kitchener.
The Gushue rink from St. John’s, which includes PEI natives Brett Gallant and Adam Casey, along with Geoff Walker, and is coached by Peter Gallant of Stratford PEI, trailed 6-5 coming home. Jacobs drew to the edge of the button with his first shot, to lie two.and leave Gushue with a tough double runback with his final stone. He was close, but Jacobs had shot stone, and the game was over without Jacobs having to throw his final rock.
The Roar to the Rings Olympic Trials takes place Dec. 1-8 in Winnipeg.
