Smith rinks unbeaten going into ch’ship round this morning at annual Silver Fox Fall Fling Jr. cashspiel

Defending PEI junior champions Tyler Smith and Veronica Smith are undefeated with 5-0 round robin win-loss records going into the 9 am semi-finals at the 7th annual Fall Fling Junior Cashspiel, which wraps up with the 1 pm finals today at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside. Sunday games are 10 ends in length. 24 teams from the three Maritime provinces are taking part in this year’s event.

The junior men’s semis see Tyler Smith, curling with a new team this year out of the Montague Curling Club, take on Graham Weagle from the Chester NS Curling Club, and Summerside’s Alex MacFadyen face Matthew MacLean and his Cornwall Curling Club team. MacLean, Weagle and MacFadyen finished round robin play on Saturday with 4-1 win-loss records.

In the junior women’s section, defending event champion Veronica Smith will play Cornwall clubmate Amanda MacLean in one of the semi-finals, with Justine Comeau from Fredericton NB’s Capital Winter Club taking on Cornwall’s Rachel O’Connor foursome in the other. MacLean and Comeau went 4-1 in the round robin, while O’Connor had a 3-2 record.

The winning men’s and women’s teams will each go home with $600, with $300 going to the runners-up. The remaining semi-finalists will pocket $125 per team.
