MacKenzie loses opener to Ferland at Challenge Casino de Charlevoix

Martin Ferland of Quebec City stole two points in the sixth end on the way to a 7-5 victory over PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie rink this afternoon on opening day of the $37,000 Challenge Casino de Charlevoix  triple-knockout World Curling Tour cashspiel in Clermont Quebec.

MacKenzie’s next game is at 11 tonight.

Ferland, along with Brier champ and last year’s runner-up in the event, Brad Jacobs, Oromocto’s James Grattan, Ottawa’s Ian MacAulay (a Souris PEI native and summer resident), and Quebec’s Jean-Michel Menard are among the unbeaten teams after the first two draws.

The event wraps up on Sunday. MacKenzie and teammate Anson Carmody were on the Brett Gallant rink when they won this event in 2011.
