MacKenzie 0-2 at triple-knockout Challenge Casino de Charlevoix

PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie rink is 0-2 after opening day at the $37,000 20 team triple-knockout Challenge Casino de Charlevoix cashspiel in Clermont Quebec, losing their late night game 8-1 to the Swiss rink skipped by Alexander Attinger, who followed a sixth end triple with a steal of a deuce in the seventh end. In a battle between Nova Scotia rinks, Ian Fitzner-Leblanc rallied late in his game with a triple in six, and a stolen single in seven to get by Brent MacDougall 8-7. Robert Desjardins of Quebec blanked Block Virtue of Regina 8-0 in one of the other late night contests. MacKenzie faces Virtue at 2 pm Atlantic, with the loser being eliminated from the event.

Earlier on Thursday, Martin Ferland of Quebec City stole two points in the sixth end on the way to a 7-5 victory over MacKenzie.

MacKenzie, and team second Anson Carmody were on the Brett Gallant rink when they won this event in 2011.
