MacKenzie rink out in 3 at Challenge Casino de Charlevoix cashspiel

PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie rink have lost their first three games at the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix cashspiel in Clermont Quebec, and are out of the $37,000 20 team triple-knockout event.

This afternoon, they dropped a 7-1 decision to the Brock Virtue rink from Regina Sask. Virture scored a triple in the first end, the teams traded singles in the next two, and the Regina team stole a deuce in the fourth end to bring the game to an early conclusion. Virtue moves on to play Souris PEI native Ian MacAulay and his Ottawa squad at 9 pm Atlantic.

On Thursday, the MacKenzie rink lost their opener 7-5 to Martin Ferland of Quebec City  and lost their late draw game 8-1 to the Swiss rink skipped by Alexander Attinger.

Ferland, and last year’s event runner up and Brier champ, Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie Ont. have already qualified for the money round on the A side of the event, while the B side qualifier games, at 4:30 this afternoon include Maritimers Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc and James Grattan. The final is on Sunday.at 2 pm AST.
