Second draw of provincial junior curling championships in the books (Journal)

SUMMERSIDE – The second draw of the Pepsi P.E.I. junior curling championships for curlers under the age of 21 is now in the books.

Defending men’s champion Tyler Smith of the Montague Curling Club won his opening game 10-7 over Alex MacFadyen of the host Silver Fox.

In women’s play, Amanda MacLean of the Cornwall Curling Club led Emily Keen of Cornwall 5-2 after seven ends, and then counted five in the eighth to close out the scoring in a 10-2 victory. MacLean improved to 2-0 while Keen dropped to 0-2.

Defending-champion Veronica Smith also made it two wins in a row with an 8-2 decision over Cornwall’s Meghan Ching. Smith led 4-2 after six ends and then counted three with the hammer in the seventh to go up 7-2, and stole a single point in the eighth end.
