Extra ends needed to determine winners of first draw at P.E.I. Scotties (Guardian)

Kathy O’Rourke and Shirley Berry opened the P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts women’s curling championship with extra end victories Thursday at the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

O’Rourke defeated the reigning champion Suzanne Birt rink 8-6 with a deuce in the extra end.

“It’s good to get a really close game against a really good team out of the way. It’s a long weekend and we learned a lot,” Birt said. “We played well, but just a few little adjustments and we’ll be good to go tomorrow.”

Berry defeated Kim Dolan 7-6.
