The opening ceremonies for the provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the inaugural Future Scotties event for junior curlers who may one day compete in the Scotties took place this evening in advance of the second Scotties draw at the Charlottetown Curling Complex.
The teams were piped on to the ice with Master of Ceremonies Gerard Murphy from Ocean 100 leading everyone in the traditional “Toast to the Piper”, which preceded the singing of O Canada. The dignitaries and invited guests in attendance were then introduced, including:
- Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown
- Kathleen Casey, MLA for District 14: Charlottetown – Lewis Point
- George Koke, President of Curl PEI
- Phillip McInnis, President of the Charlottetown Curling Complex
The teams were then introduced, and several of the dignitaries gave words of welcome.
The MC wished everyone a great weekend of curling, and the curlers were piped off the ice.
