Newson, Harris, MacKenzie, Jay still unbeaten after Tankard draw two

Draw two is in the books at the PEI Tankard Provincial Men’s Curling Championships being played at the Montague Curling Rink, and four of the ten teams in the event, including defending champion Eddie MacKenzie, top seed Jamie Newson, along with Tyler Harris and Blair Jay, remain undefeated in the “A” event of the triple knockout  Newson now plays Harris, and MacKenzie takes on Jay in the 2 pm Thursday draw, with the winners going to the “A” qualifier game for the Page championship round. That game goes Friday at 2 pm.-4.

In play this evening, Harris stole the 10th end, and a deuce in the extra to get by Blair Weeks by an 8-6 score, while MacKenzie edged Rod MacDonald in a replay of last year’s final, with the same result – MacKenzie winning by a single point in the extra end. The score this time was 9-8, while the score in last year’s final was 7-6.

In other games this evening, Robert Campbell doubled Kyle Stevenson 8-4, and in a battle between the only two non-Charlottetown Curling Complex teams in the event, Bill Hope from the Cornwall Curling Club  beat Donald Clarey and his host club rink 7-4.

Triple knockout draws continue Thursday and Friday at 2 and 7 pm, with the final draw Saturday at 2. The Page games between the top two teams, and the 3rd and 4th place teams go Saturday at 7, with the semi-final Sunday at 2, and the final following at 7, with the winning team advancing  to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 1-9 at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, BC.
