The 80th anniversary of organized curling on Prince Edward Island is being celebrated with a gala Celebration Dinner, presented by the Summerside Lobster Festival, on Thursday April 17 at the Credit Union Place Convention Centre. More than 70 curlers from the Players’ Championship Grand Slam of Curling event happening at the same time, will be in attendance, sitting at the tables with the attendees.
Award-winning broadcaster Bruce Rainnie, the host of CBC News: Compass, the supper-hour news program for Prince Edward Island (the number one rated CBC supper-hour news broadcast in the country),. a regular on Hockey Night in Canada, and the voice of curling on CBC, will be the Master of Ceremonies, and will conduct a “Hot Stove” session with the Grand Slam curlers during the event. Rainnie recently returned from the Sochi Olympics, where he called the gold medal wins of both the Jennifer Jones and Brad Jacobs teams (both of whom will be in attendance at the Players’ Championship).
The Celebration Dinner begins with a reception at 6:30 pm, and is follwed by a lobster cold plate or steak dinner, with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Following the dinner and Hot Stove, TEN STRINGS & A GOAT SKIN, a young bilingual traditional/folk/fusion East Coast Music Awards-nominated trio, celebrating the music of the Irish, Francophone, and Maritime cultures, will get the curlers “rocking”, from 9:30-11:30 pm, with their “fiery infectious energy and unique sound”.
This cost for this once-in-lifetime opportunity to meet your favourite curlers up close is just $80 per person, or $600 for a table of eight. A corporate sponsorship of $1000 will provide: your company’s signage at your table, a thank-you address during the dinner, preferred seating, and a guarantee of 2-4 Grand Slam curlers at your table of eight guests.
