Lawton grabs final women’s playoff spot (Journal)

SUMMERSIDE – The Stefanie Lawton rink from Saskatoon, Sask., is headed to the playoffs at the 2014 Players’ Championship.

Lawton defeated Crystal Webster’s foursome 5-3 on Friday afternoon to advance to the quarter-finals on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Lawton, who finished the round robin at 3-2 (won-lost), will face Canadian women’s champion Rachel Homan (3-2), and Olympic gold-medallist Jennifer Jones (3-2) will take on Scotland’s Eve Muirhead (4-1) in the other quarter-final.

Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland and Margaretha Sigfridsson of Sweden earned byes to the semifinals with 4-1 records.
