Summerside Legion team wins provincial legion curling title (Journal)

ALBERTON – In curling, sometimes the measure goes in a team’s favour, and sometimes not.

Mel Bernard’s Summerside Legion team found itself on both sides of the measure in Sunday’s final of the P.E.I. Command Provincial Legion Curling Championship in Alberton.

Bernard, and his team of Lou Nowlan, Blair Jay and Earl Proude were hoping for two points and the win in the eighth end of their Sunday morning game against the Freddy Fraser rink from the host St. Anthony’s Legion, but had to settle for a tie.

The extra end also came down to a measure, and this time the Summerside team ended up on the right side, winning the game 4-3 and earning themselves a trip to the Dominion Command Legion Curling Championships in Birch Hills Saskatchewan in March.

Other members of the team are, from third left, Lou Nowlan, Blair Jay and Earl Proude. They defeated the Freddy Fraser rink from the host St. Anthony’s Legion in an extra end Sunday at the Western Community Curling Club to win the title.
