Casey and Gushue rinks in Canadian Open, Dec. 8-13 in Sask. (GSoC)

The men’s and women’s lineups have been announced for the 2015 Meridian Canadian Open Grand Slam of Curling event, Dec. 8-13 in Yorkton Sask. The Adam Casey rink from PEI, and the defending champion Brad Gushue foursome from St. John’s NL, which includes PEI native Brett Gallant, are among the men’s division entrants.

The Canadian Open is the fourth stop on the expanded seven-event Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling series. In last year’s event, Gushue defeated Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock 6-5 in the men’s final to capture his second Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title of the season. Scotland’s Eve Muirhead beat Ottawa’s Rachel Homan 5-3 to capture the inaugural Canadian Open women’s title.

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI | Casey is the reigning PEI champion and on the pre-qualifying round at the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier. This year Casey added a new third in Mathers, who captured the Players’ Championship in 2012 with Team Epping and represented Ontario at the Brier last season with Team Mark Kean.

ST. JOHN’S, NL | Team Gushue are fresh off of winning the National, their third Pinty’s GSOC title together in the past two seasons, and are the defending Canadian Open champions. Gushue and Nichols captured the gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
