RBC Training Ground

psseThere is an exciting new development and funding opportunity for athletes across Canada, called RBC Training Ground, and Halifax has been chosen as one of four locations to host this initiative. The event will take place on Saturday March 12th, 2016

WHO: Any athlete between the ages of 14 and 25 can enter to qualify at www.RBCTrainingGround.ca

WHAT: RBC, in partnership with the CBC, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF), is leading the search for Canada’s next great Olympian through a new program – RBC Training Ground.

RBC Training Ground will help find those undiscovered athletes with podium potential and provide them with funding and support to help fuel their Olympic dreams.

Through RBC Training Ground, athletes will execute a series of workouts in front of various national/provincial sport organizations and their results will be measured against performance benchmarks to help identify those athletes who show the greatest potential. The four key areas to measure are – power, speed, strength and endurance.

Athletes selected to attend will compete in the following exercises:

POWER – vertical jump, standing jump, standing triple jump
SPEED – 40m running sprint, 6 second bike sprint
STRENGTH – 1 upper body push, 1 upper body pull, 1 leg press, medicine ball throw
ENDURANCE – arm/leg bike

Based on performance results at the RBC Training Ground event, athletes may be invited to go through additional sport specific testing and skill assessments.  Selected athletes may then be invited to join a sport specific RBC Next Generation Program. This program will provide funding through the selected sport’s national organization, to support athletes in training and development.

RBC Training Ground participants attending may be showcased and featured CBC/Radio – Canada network and RBC Training Ground website.

The top performer from each RBC Training Ground event will also receive the ultimate Olympic experience – a trip to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This is a great opportunity to showcase the athletic talent from Atlantic Canada.  The Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic is excited to be hosting this event at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax, and hope to see many athletes there.
